Regarding the Driver
Q: What are the general requirements to rent a car?
A: All drivers must have held a valid driver’s license for at least one (1) year.

For categories A, B, and C, and if you have a credit card, the minimum age is 21.

If you don’t have a credit card in your name, the minimum age is 25.

For larger vehicle categories, the minimum age is 25.
Q: Can someone else drive the car I rented?
A: Only the drivers listed in the rental agreement are allowed to drive the vehicle (see also “Does Abroad allow additional drivers?”).
Q: Does Abroad allow additional drivers?
A: Yes, you may add more than one additional driver to your contract. This must be done during the contract signing process. The additional driver must present a valid driver’s license. Additional drivers can also be added during the rental period at any Abroad service location, provided they meet the rental requirements.
Q: How much does it cost to add an additional driver?
A: The daily cost is €5 + VAT.
Q: What deposit is required?
A: At the time of rental, a credit card authorization will be made for the rental amount plus a security deposit. The amount of the deposit varies depending on the rental station, car make and model. Your credit card must have enough available credit to cover all charges.
If you are paying by cash, you must provide the full rental amount including any additional charges (insurance, special equipment, etc.), plus the vehicle excess amount.
Regarding Vehicle Use
Q: Can I tow with an Abroad rental car?
A: No. Towing is strictly prohibited and violates the rental agreement terms.
Q: Can I return the car to a different Abroad location than originally agreed?
A: Returning the vehicle to a different location may incur an additional charge. Please contact a branch or the Abroad reservations department for more information.
Q: What is the policy on off-road driving?
A: All Abroad vehicles, including 4WDs, must be driven only on paved roads.
Q: Can I remove the seats from the car?
A: No, removing seats is prohibited.
Q: What happens if I return the car late?
A: There is a 29-minute grace period. After that, a full extra day’s charge will apply.
Q: What should I do if the car has a mechanical issue?
A: In case of a mechanical problem, contact ELPA roadside assistance at 10400. Then inform the Abroad branch where the vehicle was rented.
Q: What should I do if I have an accident?
A: Immediately call the police, then contact the Abroad branch where the vehicle was rented.
